The Joy of Gaming Podcast, Episode 29:
The Co-op Episode
On this episode of The Joy of Gaming Podcast, we (Rich, Tim and Jordan) discuss one of the biggest joys of gaming today – co-op. Whether you’re on the couch playing New Super Mario Bros. and stomping on your friend’s Toad, or playing Borderlands 2 with three friends over Xbox Live (or PSN, of course), co-op generally makes gaming much more fun. It turns a stereotypically solitary activity into something collaborative, competitive and social, and the best co-op games also introduce new ideas and mechanics that would only be possible with 2 or more players.
On this episode, we count down our favorite co-op gaming experiences of all time – from classics like Contra and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 to modern-day masterpieces like Left 4 Dead and Minecraft - and discuss what it takes for a co-op game from any era to be great.
But first, we talk about the games we’ve been playing recently, including Dead Island: Riptide, Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon’s Keep, Metal Gear Solid: HD Collection, Antichamber, The Last of Us, Civilization 5, The Walking Dead: 400 Days, Lego Star Wars III, and more.
Then it’s on to news, including talk of a Strider HD-remake, More Xbox One news, flip-flops and vagueness, Arkham City: Origins Villains, Indie Game: The Movie - Special Edition, and more. And if the news sestion seems a bit light at the moment, get ready, because the fall gaming season is right around the corner.
In the meantime, why not fire up some Dead Island: Riptide, Borderlands 2 or Left 4 Dead 2, grab a co-op partner, and do-si-do. This…is the Joy of Gaming!
